SME SERVER
Welcome to home of the SME Server. We’re here to provide collaborative documentation of the SME Server project.
SME Server is a leading Open Source distribution for small and medium enterprises. It is a simple, powerful, secure Linux server for networking and communicating, used by thousands of individuals, companies and organizations all over the world. SME Server provides a friendly, free alternative to expensive proprietary software, standing apart from the competition by shipping with most common functionality preconfigured, and features a number of popular additional enhancements in the form of downloadable Contributions.
SME Server is built on Cent OS using the publicly available open source Red Hat Enterprise Linux sources. It’s advantages include:

SME Server provides the following standard:
Ease of Administration, File and print sharing, Sharing of a single Internet connection between multiple computers, A robust email server, which includes virus and spam filtering and webmail, A network firewall to protect against Internet intruders, Secure remote access, Directory services, Web application server, including support for Apache, MySQL, PHP and Python (LAMPP), RAID and Backup, Automatic updates, Extendibility.
Data centralisation– All data will be stored in one place, if the client system fails to boot you can access your files in any of the network system.
Data security– No data will be lost /mishandled as all the data will be stored in the server and necessary permissions will be given to the specific user who handles specific job/work.
User restriction– Users will be given access only to their relevant files and no access to any other folders/files.
Filtering– Unwanted mails, webpage can be filtered so that the specific user will not have any access to the blocked WebPages.
Firewall– Spam’s and viruses will be blocked from the server level thereby spreading of the virus becomes minimal.
Mail Server– Without using an internet you can send mail to your staff.
Vnc Server– You can watch your staff pc through the vnc server. (what they are doing in pc)
